They opened in 2008, and are one of only a few bookshops to be found in the Great Karoo area of South Africa, catering for customers who are craft oriented, offering free scrapbooking lessons.
When it comes to books, they realise that most people love books and they offer various book services to cater to meet their customers needs. They offer an exchange scheme, so that people with limited space for books can maintain their interest at reasonable prices.
They have in the region of 11 000 books – most of their books are second hand, but they also have a sprinkling of new books.

Fables Bookshop was founded in 1990 and they are founder members of the Southern African Book Dealers Association (SABDA). They specialise in books relating particularly to Southern Africa, and they carry stock of material in all areas from natural history to topography to current affairs to travel etc.
Their services are to the academic community around Rhodes University, buying and selling secondhand academic books for most Departments at Rhodes University.
