Art and architecture books | David Krut Publishing | Johannesburg

They were established in 1997 when David Krut produced the first major publication on William Kentridge in CD-ROM format. They have gone on to publish several more titles  as well as a range of other specific interest books on contemporary South African art and architecture.

They specialise in books on art and arts-related subjects but also stock many titles on South African culture and politics, as well as range of biographies, books of poetry and literature, design, architecture and history, and collectibles.

At their  bookstore in Parkwood you can browse through beautiful volumes on South African and international art, at Constitution Hill you can enjoy a tour of the Constitutional Court of South Africa before browsing for books on South African culture and politics in their store. The bookstore at the Johannesburg Art Gallery stocks a range of titles on South African and international art.

The TAXI Art Books seek to draw attention to the important work being produced by South African artists, and are also an excellent educational resource for both school and tertiary learners.

Karoo Boekehuis | Calvinia

The Karoo Boekehuis dates from the 2nd half of the 19th century and was restored in 1993. After restoration the Boekehuis was put at the disposal of the Karoo Boeke Trust, Hantam, and contains a valuable collection of books about and from the Karoo.

Accommodation is also provided for authors where they can work in peace where and extensive library and literary aids are made available.

The objects of the Trust Hantam are -

  • to collect and preserve books about and from the Karoo
  • to make the books belonging to the Trust available to authors and researchers
  • to promote writing and reading in the Karoo.
