Centre for the Book | Cape Town
The National Library of South Africa collects and preserves published documents – many of them available on microfilm, CD, or on-line - and make them accessible to the public. Their collections contain a wealth of information, and include rare manuscripts, books published in South Africa, periodicals, government publications, official foreign publications, maps, technical reports, Africana and newspapers.
Their aim is to promote a South African culture of reading and writing. They promote South African books in all South African languages in order to develop a truly South African literary culture.
They co-ordinate and promote book related activities in South Africa, co-ordingating events like poetry readings, conferences, book launches, writing groups and writing workshops for teachers, youth and children.
