Protea Boekhuis had its inception in 1992 as an intimate book store in Pretoria. Since then it has grown to become a strong competitor in the South African publishing industry with six branches across South Africa and a publishing house in Pretoria with more than 400 titles to its name.
Their publications include -

- biographies
They also encourage important literature in both English and Afrikaans, and they have published well-known and beloved South African authors like amongst others, Jeanne Goosen, George Weideman, Daniel Hugo, Fanus Rautenbach, Pieter Mulder and Koos Kombuis.
